More information on the Poetic Rosaries

The poetic rosaries in our collection were designed by the poet Hugo Cuevas-Mohr.

The idea was born as an easy way to remember the poem by having the first letter of each verse. Each letter of the poetic rosary is the beginning of a verse with beads separating the stanzas, so that, after reading or listening to the poem, you can recite the words by making them yours. Both in English and French, learn by heart or apprendre par coeur, is the way to make a close connection with a poem.

Even if the poem is not memorized, this beautiful rosary made with handcrafted wooden pieces, is beautiful in itself. Each poem has been carefully chosen to be represented on our collection. The wooden letters with the first letter of each verse are held together by a strong but light elastic, which helps the rosary to be maneuverable.

Each rosary has a circumference of 5 x 7 inches (13 to 18 cm), depending on the number of verses in the poem, and ends with the initials of the poet who gave life to these words. In very few exceptions, the designer has used fragments of poems that are very long or omitted stanzas if he has judged it necessary for better understanding the poem. Reciting the poems can also be a perfect aid to language learning.
